In 1991, Mr. Marcus founded Marcus Asset
Group, which is a partner in numerous investment groups in
the area and holds interests in residential, office, retail,
mixed-use and industrial properties. Marcus Asset Group also
undertakes consulting assignments for clients, including development
feasibility and due diligence studies for the acquisition and/or
development of real property.
Mr. Marcus’ previous work history with local development
companies includes the award-winning Penn Theater mixed-use
complex on Capitol Hill. Mr. Marcus spent five years as a project
director with Carley Capital Group in the 1980s, one
of the largest public-private developers in the U.S. during
that time. He was also an acquisitions director and project
manager for the GLM Companies in Washington, DC, for five
years with a focus on retail development.
A District resident since 1976, Mr. Marcus is a Certified General
Appraiser and real estate consultant, and has appraised numerous
complex multifamily, townhouse, retail, industrial and office
projects over the past decade, with a particular focus on Columbia
Heights and the 14th Street Corridor. His community involvement
includes serving as Vice President of the Columbia Heights
Association of Merchants and Professionals (CHAMPS) and playing
a startup role with the Columbia Heights Community Marketplace
Committee (CHCM), which established the current farmers
market in the neighborhood. In addition, as a member of the
Broad Branch Market Community Land Trust, he played an instrumental
role in the formation of the Chevy Chase Farmers Market
next to Lafayette School in the District, and in the retention
of the historic Broad Branch Market as a community resource.
Mr. Marcus has a degree in finance from George Washington University
and an M.B.A. in Real Estate and Urban Development from American
University.
